A bench, a lit window, a stretch of pavement: the work depends on not overplaying any of them. Its force lies in spacing, in the slight remove created by the glass, and in the way the ordinary is held just short of explanation. This is urban painting at a low register, but a deliberate one. Pause becomes structure here, and the everyday takes on a measured, almost formal weight.
